Hey everyone, it's James. We are in New York City right now. I am sitting in my room contemplating whether or not I should go across town to see if I can get some last minute scalped tickets to a sold out Mars Volta show. I just found out they are playing, and doors opened two hours ago already. It's too late to try and call in favors.
There is always so much going on here. And we always are so busy when we're here. Like today we did TRL, VH1 and Letterman. Tomorrow we have Good Morning America and A&E Private Sessions. Then we're doing the View the very next day. After all that we get to go to Sundance Film Festival to play the MySpace Nights party. We haven't played any club shows in while, so that should be pretty entertaining. We will post some video from that party, and perhaps some of me and Jesse getting EXTREME on the slopes, or maybe we can get Mickey to review some films.
Tomorrow we have to get up at 5 am for GMA. I shouldn't go out now. I used to be able to get up and do those morning shows after being out all night. I remember doing the Today show and taking a nap on the floor in our "dressing room" which was basically the space outside of the anchor's dressing rooms and Matt Lauer having to literally step over me. Ah, those were the days. Now I am old. I just ordered Chamomile Tea to my room.
Being in New York reminds makes me feel like the mythological figure Tantalus. He was the son of Zeus and Pluto who was punished by the gods for his pride. He was neck deep in water, but when he tried to drink, the water receded. When he reached for the fruit, the branches grew higher. So often we are in these amazing cities, but all we get to see are hotel rooms and backstages, while so nearby are amazing things going on like MARS VOLTA. Okay, now I sound like an ingrate, I hate that. What we get to do is amazing, and since it is a new year, let me thank all of you sincerely for allowing us to continue to make music. Happy New Year.
